LightingEurope advocates the Better Enforcement of EU rules to provide safe and quality products for users and a level playing field for all economic actors on the EU market.

The number of non-compliant and dangerous products entering the European market is increasing, especially through online sales channels. More effort needs to be put into creating EU rules that can be and are enforced and to allocate liability fairly to actors that are within the EU jurisdiction.

LightingEurope’s role

  • proactively engages with EU regulators to shape rules that are easy for all companies to understand and apply to their products and for all national surveillance authorities to enforce.
  • advocates for EU legislation to ensure that what’s illegal offline is also illegal online and allocate liability for all EU product requirements to an actor within the EU jurisdiction.
  • advocates for EU legislation to ensure that there is always a liable economic operator established in the EU for product compliance.
  • collaborates with national market surveillance authorities to share our understanding of how to interpret and apply requirements to lighting products and to signal non-compliance.
  • runs annual Mystery Shopper Exercises since 2021. Each year, our experts check and analyse different products against the relevant regulations that apply to lighting products.
