Sound Product Rules
Lighting products are subject to a wide range of EU regulations, including ecodesign, energy labelling, low-voltage safety requirements, as well as electromagnetic and radio emissions requirements.
LightingEurope engages proactively with EU and national regulators, leveraging our members’ technical expertise. Our goal is to help develop rules that improve the quality, safety, and performance of lighting products, while ensuring they are easy for companies to understand and apply, and can be effectively enforced by authorities.
LightingEurope’s role
With the upcoming review of the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling rules for lighting, the Working Group Sound Product Rules is one of the key forums where LightingEurope shapes its positions. We also take a forward-looking approach, anticipating trends such as digitalisation and the emerging Digital Product Passport.
We have developed Guidelines covering the main product legislation applicable to lighting products, including practical instructions on how to register a light source in the EU Energy Labelling Database (EPREL). You may find our Guidelines here.
To support our members in navigating regulatory updates, LightingEurope has also hosted, together with the European Commission, a webinar featuring a live demonstration on how to upload products and complete the supplier verification process in EPREL, in line with the latest requirements.
